History

At the foot of the mighty Setnes Mountain (1232 m) is the Setnes farm with stunning views towards the Romsdal fjord. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful peaks and mountains, the family has run the farm here for nearly 200 years. For generations the family’s existence was based on animal husbandry and agriculture. In the summer, the animals were herded into the mountain pastures in the valley below Trollstigen, while they worked hard to ensure a sufficient harvest of grain and vegetables in the fields.

The farm was the center of dramatic events in the beginning of World War 2. On April 18th, 1940 allied forces were deployed to Setnesmoen (field with military base) right behind the farm. On April 30th, the family was notified that the occupation forces intended to bomb both Setnesmoen and the farm in an hour. They grabbed a few belongings from the house and saved the cattle, but the family's magnificent wooden villa in the Swiss style was lost.

After the war, the current main house on the farm was build. The second floor had rooms for rent, and the family prepared all meals for guests in the large dining kitchen on the ground floor. The word about the great food at Setnes farm spread, and satisfied guests came back - year after year.

In the 1980s the capacity was extended. The family constructed themselves solid, pleasant and practical cottages for rent. Today there are these six cottages that make up Åndalsnes Hytteytleie, rooms in the main house are now used privately.

Åndalsnes Hytteutleie is located four minutes by car from Åndalsnes with all its facilities and services. There are eleven minutes to Trollveggen and 15 minutes to Trollstigen.
